Modern Therapy: Our Story and Our Values

I started working in private practice in 2015, and at that time I brought a wealth of experience from the public sector, but I felt as though something was missing from the field of private practice counseling psychology.

I passionately believe that therapy shouldn’t be something that is tolerated or dreaded. I wanted to provide clients just like you with a warm, inviting space, that brings out who YOU are. Therefore, this practice was founded to bring you some of the very latest interventions and cutting-edge technologies, combined with a soulful approach that is adaptable to who you are and who you want to be. Empowering you to live your best life is a core value that we hold dear.

Our practice is devoted to providing a safe space for you in which you can look inside and discover whole worlds within yourself that you never knew existed. We believe in the power of curiosity. Staying curious about yourself and others allows you to connect in a more meaningful and positive way. Our approach to empowering clients working through trauma and healing attachment ruptures is why we have been blessed with many referrals from former clients.

Many of my earliest clients were initially intimidated to begin their journey in therapy, they were scared and felt that something was missing. After talking with them, it didn’t just seem that they were mulling over biases about mental health. That was understandable. But the core issues that clients seemed worried about weren’t just about the process of therapy itself.

They were hesitant to approach therapy in some cases because they felt misunderstood by their former therapist. They had either had bad experiences or had heard enough from others about bad experiences to believe that therapy would be rigid and intimidating. They were worried that the clinician wouldn’t be a good fit for them.

Our approach is meant to feel different from the start. We offer online and in-person sessions that work with your schedule. Our communication style is engaging and will make you feel at ease in order to develop a comfortable rapport that may feel as though you are talking with your best friend. (If your best friend was a therapist!)

We hope to work with you as you begin your process of self-discovery. We wish you health and wellness on this journey that you are beginning to becoming the very best version of yourself.

    Take care,

    Rachel M. Irish

    About Dr. Rachel

I am so glad you are considering seeking therapy. Many of my clients are seeking to create healthy relationships, a stronger sense of self, and the ability to better cope with life’s challenges. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is very important in creating a safe, nurturing space for my clients.

My clinical experience includes working with foster children to adjust to new families, working with survivors to overcome physical and emotional abuse, and helping families with children battling mental illness. I have volunteered as a crisis counselor with the Riverside Area Rape Crisis Center, helping adult survivors tell their stories and holding their hands through a difficult time in their lives. I have received clinical training at CAST with children who are victims of crimes, as well as aiding their families in supporting them in their needs. When working with children, I use a variety of modalities including art-based interventions, play therapy, narrative therapy, and sand tray work.
